A retirement commemoration workshop for SNU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor Shin Hyoung Kang was held last February at the Global Engineering Education Center’s Global Convention Plaza. National Professors and assistants leading progress in the nation’s fluid machinery sector covered compressors, pumps, turbines and other machines and presented a total of 14 papers. Samsung Techwin, Hyosung, Hankuk Fiber Group and other companies also attended the workshop and a discussion on the Company-Institute collaboration Professor Kang lead was held. Over 60 participants attended the workshop, including graduates students and all attendees mentions “The reason why the nation’s fluid machinery could progress to such a state was seeing Professor Kang as a role model and following the professor’s footsteps.”<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Professor Kang not only actively participated in the Korea Society for Fluid Machinery but was the president of the group from 2000~2003, largely contributing to the progress of fluid machinery. Additionally, an a commendable record of her research activities such as presenting and contributing to a large number of journals shows her contribution to the nation’s fluid machinery technologies as well.

Professor Kang solved and developed over 200 projects and assignments over the 33 years of his career, pouring a tremendous effort into the development and localization of gas turbines despite the nearing retirement. We hope to see more contributions to the fluid mechanics sector even after professor Kang’s retirement.
