Ph.D. student Bo Seong Seo of professor Byeng Dong Youn’s System Health and Risk Management Lab has claimed the Best Student Paper Award in the 3rd International Conference on Materials and Reliability 2015 (ICMR) with the research titled “Development of Fault Diagnostic Technique for Solenoid Valve Used in Urban Railway Braking System” last 23rd of November (Mon) to 25th (Wed) <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Ph.D. Student Bo Seong Seo researched in the development of a fault diagnostic technique in the commonly faulty part of the urban railway braking system, the solenoid valve. Taking into account the movement mechanism of the solenoid valve, he extracted the quality factor which included physical meaning from electrical signals, thus precisely categorizing faults. The paper was commended on the high applicability on actual businesses as research used the actual solenoid valves being used by railway braking systems today.

The co-authors of this paper were Ph.D. Student Guesuk Lee, Professor Hyunseok Oh and professor Byeng Dong Youn as a corresponding author.
