Introduction of New Professor Yong-Lae Park

Receiving his bachelors degree in industrial engineering in 2000 from Korea University, Professor Yong-Lae Park went on to receive is Masters and Doctorate in mechanical engineering from Stanford. After receiving his doctorate, he worked in Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering as a Technology Development Fellow from 2010 to 2013, continuing his work as an assistant professor in Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute from 2013 to 2016. He is now working as an assistant professor in SNUMAE.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" />

His main research revolves around robot design and production, especially Soft Robotics, related to using smooth and soft materials to create robot and related parts. He is currently researching on the development of soft sensors (Artificial Skin) and actuators (Artificial Muscle). The main applicable sector of this research is healthcare, with the usage of wearable robots to aid with rehabilitation, softer and safer medical robots and equipment, soft personal robots for service to people with movement troubles and many more. He was awarded the NASA Tech Brief Award in 2012, the IEEE Sensors Journal Best Paper Award in 2013 and the Okawa Foundation Research Grant Award in 2014.
