Ph.D. student Heon Jun Yoon of professor Byeng Dong Youn’s system health and risk management lab has claimed first place in the 2015 KSME Spring Competition CAE and Mechanics Application Category with the research titled “Analysis of multi-scale electric-elastic ductility from porous structure based piezoelectric energy harvesting with negative Poisson’s ratio”, recognized for its uniqueness.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The above research viewed the effects of the Poisson’s ratio, which controls linear elastic behavior, on piezoelectric energy harvesting in a new perspective, being especially commended on the proof of how an Auxetic structure with a negative Poisson’s ratio can increase the electrical output of the piezoelectric energy harvesting facilities.
