Dr. Ying-Jun Quan and Dr. Ji Ho Jeon, alumni of our department, have been appointed as assistant professors at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the University of Connecticut in the United States, respectively. Dr. Youngjun Jeon will begin his role this July, and Dr. Ji Ho Jeon will start in August.
Dr. Ying-Jun Quan is the first graduate to be directly appointed to a prestigious European university as a professor based solely on his domestic experience, without any overseas postdoctoral experience. The University of Twente, one of the top three technical universities in the Netherlands, was ranked 72nd globally in the field of mechanical engineering according to the 2023 QS World University Rankings. Additionally, it achieved the first position in the Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure category in the 2023 THE World University Rankings. During his degree program, Dr. Ying-Jun Quan, under the guidance of Professor Seonghoon Ahn, researched the fabrication of flexible metasurfaces and structural color sensors using advanced precision processing techniques such as focused ion beam and nanoimprint.
The University of Connecticut, where Dr. Ji Ho Jeon has been appointed, is recognized as a public Ivy League university, ranking 9th among US public universities according to the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Ji Ho Jeon also conducted research under the supervision of Professor Ahn, Sung-Hoon, focusing on the spray fabrication method of short fiber composites and enhancing the bonding strength of eco-friendly fibers/polymers. He furthered his research on the post-processing of metal 3D printing as a postdoctoral researcher at Georgia Tech for about a year and a half.
