ZERO Interview

President Park Seong-woo, Member Kim Sang-min

  1. Please introduce the club and tell us what the main activities.
Club Introduction
ZERO is an autonomous driving club that develops software related to autonomous driving technology and applies it to autonomous driving platforms. We accumulate experience in various fields necessary for autonomous driving, such as computer vision, path planning and control. During the semester, we operate in Gwanak, and during vacations, we operate at the Future Mobility Center. Especially during vacations, we operate directly on the track located at the Future Mobility Center.

Club Introduction

Our club's main activity is to participate in the Autonomous Driving Vehicle category of the University Creative Mobility Contest, aiming to quickly and accurately solve given missions in an environment similar to real urban areas. During the competition, we perform various missions such as obstacle avoidance and passing through GPS shadow areas. During the summer vacation, we prepare for the competition, configure vehicles and sensors for these missions, and also test algorithms.
  1. Please talk about the strengths and what you are proud of about the club.

ⓐClub advantages

It's great that we can learn by building autonomous driving vehicles ourselves. Although coding takes up a significant portion of club activities, driving autonomous vehicles in reality allows us to solve many unexpected problems. We've had to urgently repair vehicles, wander around Yongsan Electronics Market for sensor repairs, and debug overnight due to coordinate mismatches between functions. Finding and solving these unexpected problems and feeling a sense of achievement with club members are experiences that may not be easily experienced without such club activities.

ⓑClub pride

I think what I am most proud of is being able to prepare for competitions during vacation and gain the experience of sharing joys and sorrows with club members. We've stayed up all night in the club room to meet the competition test drive date, brainstormed with club members to solve problems, and spent time together going back and forth to the competition test drive site, creating memories with club members.
  1. Message to future new members
I believe ZERO is a special club where undergraduate students can be in touch with the field of autonomous driving. It may be unfamiliar and challenging, but I am proud that the rewards are equally unique. Especially for those participating in the Future Mobility Innovation Talent Development Project or those completing the Future Mobility Track in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, it could be even more beneficial.

The club selection process is conducted entirely through document review, but there will be a question and answer session after that. The purpose of the question and answer session is to provide information that could not be obtained through promotional materials in advance and to plan club activities according to the interests of the applicants. If you have anything you want to appeal beyond what you answered in the documents, if you have any questions about ZERO that you have been curious about, or if you are interested in a specific field and want to be active in there, please apply to know more about the club.

The Q&A format is designed to reflect the activities desired by club members as much as possible. Therefore, there will be no disadvantage in the application process if you do not participate in the session. The document submission method and application schedule will also be provided in the club promotional materials, so please show a lot of interest.
