Ph.D. Course Thesis Advisory Committee Appointment Report Submission and Other Committee Related Announcement


In order to submit a Dissertation Judging Documents, a Ph.D. Course Dissertation Advisory Committee must be established within 6 semesters (8 for Masters/Ph.D Combined Course) of enrolment into the course and a research plan has to be presented to the committee during a committee meeting. Applicable people are to refer to the announcement below and apply.


1) Internal Regulations for Mechanical Engineering’s Ph.D. Course Thesis Advisory Committee [Amended 2014.01.21]

 
2013 and before
: Students are to appoint a Thesis Advisory Committee within 6 semesters of enrollment (8 semesters for Masters/Ph.D. Combined Course) and hold a committee meeting at least once before 6 months of the dissertation submission.

 
2014 onwards
: Students are to appoint a Thesis Advisory Committee within 6 semesters of enrollment (8 semesters for Masters/Ph.D. Combined Course) and hold a committee meeting during the same semester.

Following the above regulations,


Ph.D. students who enrolled in March 2014
must submit a Thesis Advisory Committee Appointment Report in January 2017 and hold a committee meeting in February 2017.
(Scheduling for the committee meeting (For 2017 February) will be handled by ME office.)


Students who fall under the below categories are to submit the Thesis Advisory Committee Appointment Report (Attached 1) by 18th Jan 2017.
* Ph.D. Course : Students who enrolled in the course in March 2014 (Within 6 semesters of enrollment) and before
* Masters/Ph.D. Combined Course : Students who enrolled in the course in March 2013 (Within 8 semesters of enrollment) and before


2) Ph.D. and Combined Course students who wish to graduate in August 2017 but have yet to hold a committee meeting must hold it at least once before February 2017.

① Students who have already held a committee meeting are to submit a Thesis Advisory Committee Result Report (Attached 3) by 18th Jan 2017.
Students who have already given a group submission of the Thesis Advisory Committee Appointment Report but have yet to hold a committee meeting are to e-mail the names of the committee members and their current situation by 18th Jan 2017 in order for ME office to handle the scheduling (for 2017 February).

[Reference] SNU Mechanical Engineering Major Masters/Ph.D. Degree Acquisition Regulations

Article 6 (Doctorate Degree Dissertation Guidance Committee) [Amended 2014.01.21]

1. (Aim and Function) A Ph.D. Course Thesis Advisory Committee is to be appointed to review  research plans and guide research in order to effectively carry out the Doctorate’s Degree Dissertation Guidance.

2. (Appointment) The Committee must comprise of 3 (Including Guidance Professor as head of committee) professors or professionals within the academic or research fields. Replacements of committee members are subject to the same above regulation.

3. (Number of meeting to be held and time period) Students are to appoint a Thesis Advisory Committee within 6 semesters of enrollment (8 semesters for Masters/Ph.D. Combined Course) and hold a committee meeting during the same semester.

4. (Review Details) Review of thesis research plans, guidance of thesis research, guidance and approval on changes to plans, future goals, decision on dates, and other details that are deemed necessary.

5. (Dismissal) The committee is dismissed at the same moment the “Thesis Guidance Result Report” is submitted and the committee members are appointed as members of the Thesis Judging Committee

(transitional measures) Students who enrolled before the amendment are advised to appoint a Thesis Advisory Committee within 6 semesters of enrollment (8 semesters for Masters/Ph.D. Combined Course) and recommend to hold a committee meeting during the same semester.
