1. 제 목 : Mechanical and Laser-Assisted Micromachining Research : An Overview
2. 연 사 : Dr. Shreyes N. Melkote (Professor at Georgia Tech)
3. 일 시 : 2006년 7월 18일 (화) 오전 10시 ~ 11시
4. 장 소 : 301동 1512호
5. 내 용 : Current focus of manufacturing research is on the development of new methods and processes for miniaturization of components and features. This emphasis has been driven largely by applications in semiconductors, optoelectronics, biomedical devices, and aerospace. Although micro fabrication methods developed in the semiconductor field are available, they tend to be limited in the range of materials they can process and in their ability to easily produce complex three-dimensional surfaces. In contrast, mechanical micromachining and laser based hybrid methods have the potential to overcome these limitations. This talk will present key findings of two ongoing research projects in these areas: 1) investigation of material removal phenomena in micro cutting processes with particular emphasis on understanding the origins of the size effect, and 2) development of a Laser-Assisted Mechanical Micromachining (LAMM) process for creating free-form micro scale features in difficult-to-machine materials. The talk will conclude with a brief summary of other research projects currently in progress in the speaker’s research group.
