1. 제 목 : Process Integration Strategy for Design of Complex Systems
2. 연 사 : Hongman Kim (Phoenix Integration, Inc.)
3. 일 시 : 2003년 9월 3일 (수) 16:00 - 18:00
4. 장 소 : 서울대 신공학관(301동) 117호 세미나실
5. 내 용 :
In the design of complex systems such as aircraft or space systems, it is important to account for coupling and interaction effects between various disciplines and physical subsystems. It is well known that the earlier those coupling effects are incorporated into the design process, the more benefits can be obtained in terms of performance and the product life cycle cost. Manufacturing industries have been devoting serious efforts to improving their design process by adopting this new paradigm. The presentation will discuss industry experience in building engineering design process using ModelCenter multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) framework to automate data transfer, to perform parameter study and optimization. It will be discussed how organization specific needs determines their design process in terms of trade study, parallel processing, distributed computing, and collaboration among engineering groups. Importance of flexibility and extensibility of process integration tools will be discussed. Examples where a design system is built to allow engineers to share and exchange design data in enterprise-wide projects will be described.
The industry use cases show that lack of software solution targeted to enterprise-wide design process is a major challenge in rapid deployment of integrated design process. This talk will describe an on-going effort to develop a commercial collaborative engineering environment based on BLISS (Bi-Level Integrated System Synthesis) MDO methodology. BLISS is an approach that allows design problems to be naturally decomposed into subsystem optimizations and system optimization. BLISS methodology has multiple advantages to make it very well suited to the design of complex systems. The new collaboration solution comprising a central database and Web interfaces will bridge the gap between pockets of ModelCenter users to create an enterprise-wide design process. Multi-level parallel capabilities that will be added to ModelCenter will make it possible to make the most use of computing resources and quickly incorporate the results into the design process. The design activities of engineers will be coordinated by the systematic BLISS algorithm through customized Web interfaces.
