An efficient aerodynamic design optimization technique will be presented, which is based on an analytical asymptotic flow solution method. The analytical solution method is formulated in a streamline coordinate system, wherein the governing equations are transformed into a non-homogeneous Cauchy-Riemann system. A sequence of coordinate transformation and asymptotic expansion places the governing equations in a form suitable for classical mathematical techniques. The method has a strong potential for aerodynamic design application, since the objective function can be evaluated at a very low computational cost. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated for flow analysis and inverse design of airfoils and airfoil cascades.
